Prague
the other end of the trunk
The European end of the trunk, flown for the community at the other end of it. Winter operations, short feed sectors, and one very long way home.
THE POSTING
Prague is the newest outstation and the most expensive posting on the board. It is not here because Europe is a market — it is here because the community is. Czechia has one of the largest Vietnamese populations in Europe, and the sector that justifies this base is the one that goes home.
Everything else Prague does is feed for that sector. A pilot based here spends most of the month on short European turns, and the rest of it crossing most of the planet.
TRANSFER ONLY · MAJOR HUB
THE FIELD
A plateau field west of the city, in the middle of the Bohemian basin, with no terrain worth the name and nothing in the approach geometry that will trouble anyone in summer. On paper it is the most ordinary airport on the network.
Winter is the whole story. A continental basin fills with fog, it freezes, and it does both for weeks rather than days. De-icing with a holdover clock running is routine from late autumn, and low-visibility procedures here are less an event than a season. Almaty teaches you winter with a mountain range attached; Prague teaches you winter on its own, which turns out to be the harder lesson.
THE FLYING
Two kinds of flying and almost nothing in between. Short narrowbody sectors around Central Europe — an hour, ninety minutes, several in a duty — and then the widebody rotation to Hanoi or Saigon that takes most of two days and close to half the month with it.
There are no domestic duties at all. Czechia has no scheduled internal network, and every field inside the country is nearer to Prague than the shortest sector the airline will schedule, so every single duty out of this base crosses a border. Nowhere else on the network can say that.
WHERE IT TAKES YOU — 20 DESTINATIONS
IN THE CABIN
The trunk sector is the one that changes what a cabin is. It is long, it is full, and a good part of it is people travelling between two homes rather than on holiday — families, a great deal of luggage, and a cabin that treats the aeroplane as a link rather than a service. Twelve hours is a long time to get that wrong in.
The European feed is the opposite: short, brisk, and heavy with inbound tourism, which produces compliance problems rather than medical ones. Winter puts the ground events on top of both. A de-icing slot missed here does not cost you a turnaround — it costs someone a connection onto a sector that operates twice a week.
FLYING IT FOR REAL
Well covered by default on every platform, and the city on the approach does more for the sector than terminal detail would. What a simmer ends up buying for this base is weather, not scenery.
Nothing here is required. Every sector out of this base flies on default scenery, on any simulator the Companion App supports.
