Ha Noi

the capital under cloud

The capital, and the weather you will complain about most: January drizzle that sits on the field for days and lifts exactly when it feels like it.

THE POSTING

Noi Bai is one of the two hubs, and the one that decides what the northern half of the network does on any given day. It is not open to new cadets: you transfer here once you can pay for the posting, and by then you will have diverted into it more than once.

It is also where the widebody lives, which makes it the first base on the ladder where the flying stops being short-haul.

THE FIELD

Flat delta ground north of the city, with parallel runways and enough room that traffic rather than terrain sets the tempo. Nothing about the geometry is difficult.

The weather is a different matter. From December into March the north sits under low stratus and drizzle for days at a time — cloud on the deck, visibility that hovers around minima without committing, and a field that lifts exactly when it feels like it. Every pilot in the country has an opinion about Hanoi in January, and none of them are warm.

THE FLYING

The full trunk, plus the regional and long-haul board. Duty days lengthen here and the sector mix widens: short domestic legs sitting alongside flying that takes most of a day.

A hub base rewards seniority. There is more of everything, including more ways for the day to go sideways.

IN THE CABIN

Full cabins, connecting passengers, and a schedule with no slack in it. Delay is the event generator here — a late inbound turns into a missed connection turns into a cabin that already knows the day is ruined before you push back.

The weather adds holds and diversions on top. This is the base where Company Standing moves most, because more people are on board to be inconvenienced by whatever you decide.

FLYING IT FOR REAL

A large, well-covered field that most sim platforms render acceptably by default. Payware exists and mostly buys you terminal detail rather than a different approach.

Nothing here is required. Every sector out of this base flies on default scenery, on any simulator the Companion App supports.
