Two currencies. Hours decide when you can be promoted, cash decides whether you can afford it. You need both — and neither is for sale: hours come from flying, and cash is earned, lent or won.

* Every other rank is a promotion you buy once the hours are in. Captain is not. You enlist on a command course, fly four line-training sectors and two check sectors, and the fee above is what the examiner charges for the check — paid after the line training is passed, in cash or on a command loan.
