Dubai

the crossroads in the heat

A hub with almost nothing local to fly. Every duty here is a long one, the ramp never sleeps, and the summer heat sits on the field until well after dark.

THE POSTING

Dubai is the fourth paid posting and the closest thing on the network to a pure connecting hub. There is no domestic network to speak of — every other field in the country is a few minutes down the coast — so every duty out of this base crosses a border, and most of them cross several time zones with it.

It is also never quiet. Two parallel runways run close to capacity around the clock, and a base here means learning to fly into a queue rather than an empty circuit.

THE FIELD

Flat desert on three sides and the Gulf close in on the fourth, with nothing in the terrain to trouble an approach. The runways themselves are the story: 12L/30R and 12R/30L, both long enough for anything on the fleet, laid out for the volume that moves across them rather than for the geography around them.

The season that matters is summer. From June to September the field routinely sits above 45°C by early afternoon, which eats into performance figures a pilot never had to think about at a coastal Vietnamese base, and a shamal blowing dust in off the desert can drop visibility with almost no warning. Winter is short, mild and mostly uneventful — this is a base defined by heat, not by cold.

THE FLYING

Long and medium-haul only. The shortest turns on the board out of here are still several hours each way, and the trunk back to Hanoi and Saigon sits alongside genuine long sectors to Europe and thin, fast-turning hops across South and Southeast Asia.

Congestion is the operational fact that shapes the duty, not distance. Holding, sequencing and a taxi-out that can run longer than some of the sectors flown from a junior base are all ordinary here, and the pay reflects a posting nobody reaches without first affording it.

IN THE CABIN

Long sectors and a connecting hub produce a cabin built around transit rather than destination — tight onward connections, a wide mix of nationalities, and very little tolerance for a late arrival that costs someone their next flight.

Heat is the other half of it. Boarding in the afternoon sun before an evening departure is its own kind of event, and the crew-tasking windows on a hot-and-heavy departure leave little room for anything to run long.

FLYING IT FOR REAL

One of the better-covered fields on the network — a genuinely busy real-world hub tends to attract genuinely serious scenery. The default rendition is a reasonable start; the add-ons below are where the ramp actually comes alive.

Nothing here is required. Every sector out of this base flies on default scenery, on any simulator the Companion App supports.

Scenery

The detailed rendition of the field. The GSX profile and the freeware options below are built against the default airport instead.

PaidiniBuilds · MSFS · simMarket

Ground textures, objects and night lighting over the default MSFS Premium Deluxe field. Requires that default OMDB installed — not a standalone airport, and not the same base as the iniBuilds scenery above.

GSX profile

VDGS and custom pushback for Terminals 1 and 3 plus the Royal Air Wing. Built for the default/QNH997 field, not the iniBuilds one. Remote stands are a work in progress upstream.
